Has your concrete sidewalk, driveway, or patio developed cracks and settled unevenly? Concrete can become damaged or cracked for many reasons including:
- improper drainage
- tree root growth
- animal tunnels and burrows
- soil compaction after construction
- soil erosion
Instead of replacing your concrete, have you considered concrete leveling to extend the life of your concrete?
Leveling Interior Floors
Another service we provide is floor leveling. Instead of injecting material below the concrete floor’s surface, this process adds a layer above. The material used evens out the floor so it becomes level. This process is often used on basement floors, new construction, factories and other commercial buildings.
Mudjacking
How does Mud or Slab Jacking work?
There are two primary ways concrete slab jacking can be used to extend the life of concrete that has become cracked and/or uneven: supporting and lifting.
- Support Concrete. If concrete has cracked or the ground beneath demonstrates instability, the ground underneath the concrete can be stabilized. This can be done before concrete has become uneven and additional work is required.
- Lift Concrete. If the concrete has become uneven or sunken the ground underneath the concrete can be stabilized and then additional concrete can be added to level the surface.
How the Mud Jacking Process Works
After assessing the work needed, the slab jacking process starts with drilling small access holes, 1.25″ in diameter, into the concrete . These holes are strategically located to minimize the risk of additional damage. A concrete mixture is injected into the holes. The initial injection fills empty space (aka voids) underneath the concrete; eg. the mixture stabilizes the concrete’s foundation. If the concrete is uneven, additional injections are used to lift the concrete. The process can produce noticeable results in minutes. After the slabs are supported and/or raised the access holes are patched to protect the concrete.
Compared to removing and replacing the concrete, mudjacking is faster and less expensive however, there are a few caveats to the mudjacking process.
- Original concrete must be or good quality or the concrete may break apart when lifted.
- Concrete should be at least 4″ thick.
The process is not foolproof. For example slabs built on filled in land, poor soils, areas subject to erosion and water damage, or those near large trees can be subject to further damage.
Concrete Leveling is Environmentally Friendly too!
Mudjacking aka Slabjacking offers an more environmentally friendly, less expensive way to fix concrete that has become uneven. Concrete jacking is environmentally friendly because it is a mixture of natural ingredients including cement (limestone and silica), clay, shale, slate, dirt and water. Our concrete leveling mixture does not include chemical or synthetic fillers.
